2024 Fares Center International Conference “The US in the Middle-East and the Middle-East in the US”

The Fletcher School, in collaboration with the Fares Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies, presents the 2024 Fares Center International Conference. Join us April 18-19th, 2024, at The Fletcher School in Boston, Massachusetts. This year’s conference theme is “The US in the Middle-East and the Middle-East in the US.”
This in-person and online conference aims to delve into the intricate and evolving dynamics between the United States and the Middle East, exploring themes such as the US policies and presence in the Middle East, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and its impact both regionally and domestically in the US, power vacuums and the remaking of regional dynamics, and Arab-American cultural encounters, among others. Speakers include Lisa Anderson, Sahar Aziz, Ali Banuazizi, Peter Beinart, Dana El Kurd, Mark Tessler, and CIP President and CEO Nancy Okail.
CIP President and CEO Nancy Okail, will be speaking on a panel moderated by Monica Tott with Ali Banuazizi (Boston College) and İsmail Numan Telci (Sakarya University) titled “Power Vacuums and the Remaking of Regional Dynamics.” scheduled from 4:15-5:25 PM EST on April 18th. She will discuss US foreign policy in the Middle East, including the impact of arms sales, militarization, and flawed assumptions about stability.
